California!

Here we are at Mission Beach in California

the water was cold!

it was the kids first trip to a "warm" beach. We went to the ocean in alaska, and i am not totally convinced the water is much colder up there. i have swam in the ocean off kenai beach, like up to my neck, and i didnt go in past my knees/waist here in california. we still had lots of sandy fun though. i couldn't believe how sandy we were when we left. at first the kids were scared of the water, i might have rushed them into the water....i guess they needed to warm up to the idea a little. so we played on the beach and dan helped them build a sand castle, which abby loved to tear apart, and andrew didn't like that. he threw sand in abbs face;(, but i couldnt blame him for being frustrated, she did LOVE to wreck it...and he was working so hard to build it. after a little bit, i took them back to the water, much more slowly, and they liked it. abby loved the waves as long as she was sitting on my lap. which i shouldnt be surprised at, because i remember when i was little being really scared of the waves (i think i went in too fast, and it scared me), and i remember ONLY wanting to walk on the water at the very edge, NO waves allowed...and abby does seem to take after me a little. andrew had a lot of fun running in the waves. he didn't like the kelp that had washed up, but we had a lot of fun finding different little seashells that had washed up. next up, i will post about the san diego zoo, then disneyland. so enjoy!
